IMPROVE CLARITY AND FUNDER TONE
Use this after a human has verified the draft is accurate. Never run this before step 4 in the workflow.

STRENGTHEN OUTCOMES AND EVALUATION FRAMING
Use this to build a logic model from your program data. Especially useful for evaluation sections.
Using only the outcomes data and program activities I provide below, strengthen the logic model framing for this proposal. Structure the response as: Activities → Outputs → Short-term Outcomes → Long-term Outcomes → Evaluation Methods. Do not invent outcomes. FIND CONTRADICTIONS AND WEAK CLAIMS
Use this as a final review step before human compliance check. It catches things tired eyes miss.
Act as a skeptical, experienced grant reviewer. Read this proposal section and identify: (1) unclear or vague claims that a reviewer would flag, (2) missing evidence for assertions made, (3) contradictions between different parts of the text, (4) language that sounds inflated relative to what's actually described, and (5) any places where the proposed evaluation doesn't match the stated outcomes. DATA PRIVACY AND SAFETY

COMMON QUESTIONS
Honest answers about using AI responsibly in grant writing.
AI can draft sections, suggest structure, and tighten your language—but it cannot replace the human responsible for truth. Every claim, statistic, and outcome in a submitted grant must be verified by a real person. Use AI as a writing assistant, not an author.
Some funders now ask directly whether AI was used in the application. Always answer honestly. Generic-sounding language is also a red flag for experienced reviewers—which is why personalizing AI output with your org's real voice and real data matters so much.
Submitting AI-generated content without verification. AI models confidently fabricate statistics, program names, and citations that don't exist. Any number or claim that you cannot independently verify should be removed or marked TBD before submission.
Free tiers of tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini are sufficient for most grant writing tasks. The quality of your results depends far more on the quality of your inputs (program summaries, outcomes, guidelines) than on which tool you use.
Feed the AI examples of your existing writing—reports, impact stories, website copy. Explicitly instruct it to match your tone and avoid corporate language. Review every draft and rewrite sentences that don't sound like you.
